Get Involved

There are plenty of ways to get involved with Practical Activism, from the planning process to the day of the conference. Below you will find information for how to join the planning team, submit a workshop proposal, and have your organization represented by tabling.

Join the Planning Team:

The Practical Activism Conference Planning Team is composed of students affiliated with College Nine and College of the University of California Santa Cruz. Being a part of the Practical Activism Planning Team is a unique rewarding experience where participants have the opportunity to learn organizing activism skills, learn and build upon their professional development skills, and be a part of creative team-building while making friends and lasting memories along the way.

Email practicalactivism@gmail.com to learn more about conference planning and joining the 2-unit class in Fall & Winter quarters. Students who complete their commitment receive a total of 4 units and meet the PR General Education requirement.

Submit a Workshop Proposal:

The Practical Activism Conference is looking for topics to cover! Is there a topic you are passionate about that you want the Practical Activism Planning Team to consider for the next conference? Submit a proposal! The goal of the conference is to educate, inform, and provide tools for local and global change. We invite you to share in this experience by proposing a workshop or special session on a topic you are passionate about. The planning team reviews all proposals submitted and selects workshops to be presented during the conference.

This proposal form is designed to help you provide resources and suggestions to the planners and to convey general information about what you would like the workshop to address. This is a first draft that will ultimately be used by planners to guide the development of the workshop, if selected. Please be as detailed as possible. You may submit more than one submission. Forms may be jointly submitted.

Download and fill out the pdf document below and email completed forms to practicalactivism@gmail.com. Due to the global pandemic, our deadlines are more flexible this year. Email the student lead coordinators and they will send you more information when updated workshop proposals become available.

Tabling:

Do you work with a UCSC student organization or local non-profit in Santa Cruz that you would like to see represented at Practical Activism?

Tabling at the Practical Activism Conference gives your organization the unique opportunity to reach students and the public. This is a great opportunity to inform people looking to get engaged about the work you do and increase student involvement.
