We are proud to announce the keynote speakers for the 2018 Practical Activism Conference!

Morning Keynote Speaker: César Cruz
César Cruz is an activist and educator fighting for justice in marginalized communities.

From marching 76-straight miles, to hunger striking for 26 days, César has dedicated his life to fighting for justice. Cruz immigrated to South-Central L.A. from Mexico and became the first Mexican immigrant to receive his doctorate in Educational Leadership at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is the co-founder of the independent school, Making Changes, and has sought to create other autonomous education spaces. He currently teaches Latinx history and oversees the Homies Empowerment Program serving gang-impacted and gang-involved youth in Oakland. Afternoon Keynote Speaker: Terisa Siagatonu
Terisa Siagatonu is a poet, community organizer, and activist fighting for rights for LGBTQ+, indigenous, and Pacific Islander communities. 

 Afternoon Keynote Terisa SiagatonuTerisa Siagatonu is an award winning poet, arts educator, and community organizer born and rooted in the Bay Area. Her presence in the spoken word world as a queer Samoan womyn and activist has granted her opportunities to perform in places ranging from the White House to the UN Conference on Climate Change in Paris, France. She received President Obama’s Champion of Change Award in 2012 for her activism as a spoken word poet/organizer in her Pacific Islander community. Terisa is a mentor for PILOT: Pacific Islander Leaders Of Tomorrow. Siagatonu is a College Ten alumnus and UCSC Grand Slam Champion. She has worked with the Practical Activism Conference for many years as the spoken word artist, but this year will be her first to give the keynote address.

We encourage you to bring your own cup for coffee and water, utilize our Zero Waste bins to dispose of your snack trash, download our program on your phone, and provide feedback through our online form to reduce paper watse.
