We are proud to announce our spoken word and key note speakers for the 2017 Practical Activism Conference!

Spoken Word Artist: Porsche Kelly
Porsche Kelly is a spoken word artist from Oakland, California.

She performs gut-wrenching, heartfelt poetry in a variety of spaces. She is especially passionate about social justice, including fighting against racism, sexism, and human trafficking. In 2015, she joined Freedom Speaks, a group of artists using poetry, music, and dance to convey messages of hope, justice, and faith. While Porsche calls herself "The Poetic Activist", she writes about an array of topics: God and faith, freedom, hope, social justice, peace, love/romance and more. Her aim is to speak truth with raw and transparent lyrics, share the message of freedom, hope, and love, and inspire others to rise up and fight for justice.

Keynote Speaker: Zahra Billoo
Zahra Billoo is the executive director of the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) San Francisco Bay Area. photo of Zahra BillooIn her work at CAIR, she frequently provides trainings at mosques and universities as part of CAIR’s efforts to empowerthe community, while building bridges with allies on civil rights issues. She is a 2014 recipient of the National Lawyers Guild San Francisco Bay Area Chapter's Unsung Hero Award, and a 2013 recipient of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California's Trailblazer Award. Zahra graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Long Beach with degrees in Human Resources Management and Political Science. She earned her JD from University of California, Hastings College of Law, and is licensed to practice law in California. Most recently, Billoo spoke at the 2017 Women’s March in Washington, D.C. On January 30, Billoo joined 14 other named plaintiffs in suing President Trump and other top government officials in a lawsuit filed in the Eastern District of Virginia. One of many legal challenges to the travel ban, the complaint called the executive order unconstitutional and requested injunctive relief. “Yes, this is my first time suing a sitting president,” Billoo told reporters.
